U.S. v. Ogorodnikov (CDCA, Los Angeles), 1985
Randy Sue Pollock achieved a drastically reduced sentence for Russian spy client Nikolay Ogorodnikov. The trial settled after two months of testimony with a sentence of only eight years.
Mr. Ogorodnikov, along with his wife, was charged with luring FBI agent Richard Miller into passing government secrets that were then given to the Russian government. If convicted, Mr. Ogorodnikov would have received life in prison. This was the first espionage trial involving an FBI agent.
