U.S. v. Sands (NDCA) 2017
Unlike many other federal districts, the NDCA has alternative programs that allow individuals to participate in substance counseling or other therapeutic programs (non-residential programs) that can result in either a dismissal of the case or a non-prison sentence. In this case, the client participated in the Conviction Alternative Program (CAP) and given his successful completion of the program, the judge placed him on probation. He has a felony conviction but he avoided a four year prison sentence.
